Full Job Description

  • Are you a dedicated DT teacher who delivers motivating and innovative lessons?

  • Are you committed to driving up standards and ensuring that all pupils are challenged to reach their maximum potential?

  • Would you like to live and work in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK, teaching keen and dedicated students in a school that has high ambitions for all?

  • Then we would welcome an application to join our well-established, successful and dynamic Technology Department in September 2024.

We are looking for a confident, highly motivated teacher of DT with an uncompromising commitment to student achievement. A creative and well-organised classroom practitioner, you will teach exciting technology lessons that engage all learners from across the age and ability range. Your high standards and commitment to your subject, your passion for improving the life opportunities of young people and your ability to deliver inspiring lessons will make you a great fit for our school.

Our school really is amazing - take a moment to review our recent Ofsted Report, explore our website and take a look at our social media feeds - they will give you a sense of all the incredible opportunities available at Ullswater Community College.

We try to live by our values of Ambition, Caring and Equal in all we do - if you align with these, then we'd be interested in hearing from you.

UCC is a larger than average 11-18 comprehensive school serving the biggest catchment area in England. We received an Ofsted Good rating in April 2023 and were recognised as 'Best Secondary School in Cumbria' at the annual NewsQuest Educational awards in October 2023.

Voted 'Best Secondary School' in the recent Cumbria Golden Apple Awards, UCC is a happy place where students and teachers treat one another with respect. As a school, we are fiercely ambitious for our students, care deeply about all aspects of their success and value everyone's unique differences. This is captured in our values of Ambitious, Caring and Equal - Our vision is to ensure that UCC is 'best in county' in all we do; our ambition is to be a leader in approaches to supporting flexible working within schools.

    We offer all our staff:
  • A welcoming and supportive community, where staff really do matter - our Staff Wellbeing group is an integral part of the school culture.

  • An outstanding programme of continuing professional development at all levels, which is supportive, well led and very well financially supported and resourced. We provide opportunities to develop the skills, experience and qualities to progress your career.

  • A committed, supportive and approachable leadership team with a clear vision for raising standards and maintaining a responsive and professional working environment.

  • Within the next few years we will be designing, building and moving into state-of-the art new facilities.

  • Access to the latest technology to support all staff roles.

  • Membership of our employee assistance programme.

  • Cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme.

  • This is an exciting time to be joining us - we have been named in the school rebuilding programme group 2 meaning you will soon be working in one of the newest and best resourced school buildings in the country.

We recognise our staff as our most valuable resource, with this in mind, we invest heavily in staff development, consider the well-being of colleagues in every aspect of the school and encourage staff to be fully involved in our future development.

We also pride ourselves on our fantastic students and broad curriculum offer. Our students, their behaviour and their personal development are recognised as significant strengths within the school.

This is a permanent appointment and we welcome applications from all disciplines within Technology. As part of our approach to accommodate flexible working, full time, part time and/or job share will be considered and can be discussed at interview.

We can offer you a well-equipped and resourced Design and Technology department, with workshops, textile rooms, catering kitchens and ICT facilities. The work of the department is supported by two full-time technicians. You will also have the opportunity to teach your specialist area up to KS5.

This is a great opportunity for either a newly qualified or an experienced teacher to work in a friendly, dynamic environment and to play a full and active role in the continual development of high-quality teaching and learning.
