Full Job Description

BioWatt are operators of anaerobic digestion/biogas plants which produce green electricity and gas using organic materials such as crops, manures and food wastes.

We are looking for an Operations Manager who will be based at our site near Ilkeston, Derby. The role also offers a chance to train on and operate some of our other sites across the UK.

After completing training, the role involves taking full onsite responsibility for a small operations team tasked with the operation and up-keep of the site. This role involves periods of lone working and the successful candidate will be motivated and driven to work and overcome challenges unsupervised.

A typical day at a BioWatt Site will consist of the following and the site Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring they are carried out by the team to a high standard.

  • Using a JCB telehandler to load the hopper with feedstock

  • Completing daily/ weekly checks of the plant and equipment using our dedicated app

  • Ensuring all light maintenance is completed and recorded

  • Keeping the site tidy as you work and reporting any health and safety issues

  • Maintaining and recording supplies/ spares on site

  • Oversee the logistics of a busy delivery and collection schedule

  • Monitoring and record keeping to ensure the site remains compliant with all requirements

  • Communicating with the wider UK Operations Team to share knowledge and help problem solving


  • This is a full-time position which also includes being on-call on a rota basis with call-out payments on top of salary., Our Operations Team has been growing over the last few years and BioWatt offers opportunities for growth and career development.You would be joining a growing but close team who value teamwork and helping each other get the job done. The existing Operations Manager is changing roles within the business and will be providing full training until handover.

    The following skills and experience are preferred but not essential:
  • Telehandler driving experience and certificate

  • Experience of conducting daily checks and light maintenance routines (greasing etc)

  • Confident using smartphone and apps

  • Confident using a computer and spreadsheets

  • WAMITAB or waste & duty of care experience

  • Previous experience leading a small team


  • A full UK driving licence is required.
