Full Job Description

We are currently seeking a Safety Officer to join the team. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and
enhance the Health & Safety culture of our business.

The successful candidate will work along side and support the Health, Safety & Environmental Manager,
ensuring safe practices on all sites controlled by PenCarrie in liaison with the relevant department Mangers.
The role will cover a variety of areas within the business and part of the role will also involve supporting the
facilities team ensuring environmental compliance, assisting with contractor management, and general
administration.

The role is part of a team led by the Property Manager which includes the HSE Manager, a Facilities
Coordinator, 5 x Facilities Cleaning Team Members, 2 x Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and a
Maintenance Engineer.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Working along side the HSE Manager to deliver larger projects, maintain high levels of safety


  • compliance and manage a reactive workload when necessary.
  • Complete Health and Safety monitoring across all company operations using safety management


  • systems.
  • Support in the development of our internal Health and Safety audit processes producing audit


  • reports and following up any relevant actions.
  • Liaise with the Facilities Management team and support where necessary.


  • Partake in the Health and Safety Committee meetings providing operational and clerical support.


  • Assist the HSE Manager with safety and/or accident investigations and related actions.


  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the inspection, reporting and training software.


  • Assist in the identification of need, preparation and completion of risk assessments, SOPs and


  • training of Team Members, with particular attention to machine risks, manual handling, working at
    height, display screens and driving at work.
  • Interact with Team Members by providing advice and support where required.


  • Support the management of fire safety by reviewing and recording checks on all fire safety systems.


  • Conduct regular work place inspections.


  • Ensure COSHH compliance.


  • Deliver Health & Safety training throughout the business such as Health & Safety Inductions of new


  • Team Members and the delivery of basic safety training.
  • Assist the HSE Manager and department Managers in preparing safety policies and standard


  • operating procedures (SOPs) for Team Members.
  • Take on any other responsibilities or tasks that are within your skills and abilities whenever, Good at figuring out the processes necessary to get things done; knows how to organise people and

  • activities; understands how to separate and combine task into efficient work flow; knows what to measure
    and how to measure it; can see opportunities for synergy and integration where others can't; can simplify

  • This is a full time role working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with a degree of flexibility


  • required in working hours (emergencies, contractor management out of hours etc)

    Knowledge, skills and experience required:

    Essential
  • At least 2 years' experience in a similar role.


  • Have administrative skills including, Outlook, Word, Excel and MS Teams and the ability to learn


  • computerised systems.
  • Have the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines.


  • Ability to keep up to date with knowledge of health and safety requirements and legislation changes.


  • Proven ability to eliminate/mitigate risks in the workplace.


  • The ability to work independently with initiative and as part of a team.


  • Have excellent attention to detail coupled with excellent communication skills both verbal and


  • written across all Team Member levels.
  • Full Driving Licence without restrictions.


  • Physically fit and able to be on your feet for periods of time and able to work at height.


  • Desirable
  • An IOSH, NCRQ or NEBOSH qualification in, or currently studying towards, safety management.


  • Experience of warehousing and office activities


  • Material Handling Equipment Training (forklifts etc)


  • IOSH membership
