We are seeking a Barley Breeder to lead our UK barley breeding programme working with our key partners within the UK and Europe. The role will require significant business travel in the UK and a full driving licence will be required., Develop and implement the strategic plan for barley breeding: deliver a successful barley breeding programme in the UK in line with the company strategy and contribute to the global barley activities with our key partners. Elsoms and partners invest heavily in new breeding techniques to ensure that competitive, commercial varieties are available to UK growers. By working closely with likeminded, independent plant breeding businesses, Elsoms use a range of impressive resources and research stations to remain a significant force in developing new agricultural varieties for the UK market.,

  • Develop, implement and deliver the strategy for our barley R&D programme for the UK

  • Organise and execute all UK field trials, including drilling and harvest, with the support of key partners and service providers

  • Identify candidates for national listing, organise and monitor small scale multiplications and administer national listing applications

  • Direct trial seed preparation including logistics of trial seeds for UK and outside the UK

  • Facilitate participation of our key partners in UK based private and public research projects

  • Manage a small team of people, enabling them to reach their full potential, Due to the expansion of our team, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Technician to join our Plant Breeding team within the R&D department at Elsoms Seeds Ltd. This role will be to work in our dedicated laboratories across three work areas: plant tissue culture, molecular biology and phytopathology. This role provides a rare opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment and develop a broad portfolio of scientific skills., We are seeking a Logistics Coordinator to join our Vegetable Export team reporting to the Export & Organics Manager in our Vegetable Business Unit. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced candidate with a track record in coordinating the export of our products globally. You should have hands-on experience in efficiently managing export processes and be able to navigate the intricacies of international trade. A critical aspect of this role involves extensive interaction with freight companies and overcoming customs challenges. You should be able to demonstrate meticulous attention to detail in handling documentation and compliance requirements, be able to liaise with our export customers, freight partners and internal stakeholders. Our ideal coordinator should proactively seed process improvements and be able to work seamlessly with cross-functional teams., Internal and external customer interaction to ensure all export sales for the Veg BU are completed in a timely and efficient way with a high level of customer service. Handling and fulfilling of international customer enquiries and respective documentation to meet with each international customer's requirements. Efficient use of company systems and processes., Responsible for Veg BU phytosanitary certificates. Fulfil online process and upload documentation. Email APHA with application and documents. Then move orders to warehouse on NAV.

  • Obtain information and create quality certificates, germ and purity reports based upon individual customer requirement. Supply to customer.

  • Create and issue customers with respective shipping and custom documents.

  • Monitor, track and support with shipments and share status updates with customers and relevant colleagues.

  • Manage and resolve export shipping issues within the vegetable department.

  • Coordinate orders for Northern Ireland including lot tracking and associated paperwork required.

  • Upon receipt of information from crop coordinators, agree sampling date and submit sampling application online. Update NAV lot cards accordingly. Monitor progress.

  • Creation of export customer pricelists, issue accordingly. Upload and maintain pricelists on NAV for each individual customer.

  • To raise export related purchase orders for the Veg BU and complete any additional administration work relevant to the role., We are seeking a salesperson to join our Agricultural team reporting to the Head of Agricultural Sales. The successful candidate should have exceptional communication skills and be able to engage effectively with customers and foster strong relationships. You should demonstrate commercial awareness and the ability to articulate product features and benefits persuasively. In addition, the ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of agricultural crops, industry trends and be adept at interpreting technical data and written information contributing to the overall success of our sales team., Be Customer-centric. Generate seed sales from new and existing customers to deliver agreed targets. Build and maintain an effective industry network to enable success of sales. Be recognised in the industry as a trusted and valued partner.


  • Work with Sales, Marketing and Technical to create crop plans and timelines for developing the market opportunity. Work with Sales, Marketing and Technical colleagues to create seed campaigns. Assist the organisation and running of Open Days, Conferences, Trade Shows and Exhibitions. Be active in your own personal development within the company.,
  • Generate sales from new and existing merchant and farm customers to deliver agreed targets

  • Support Head of Agricultural Sales in the creation and development of sales and account plans

  • Participate in all activities including Open Days, Conferences, Briefings, internal and external meetings

  • Contribute to maintaining the Agriculture Business Unit's presence in social media and other marketing media

  • Maintain a high level of commercial and technical expertise, and professional qualifications, to ensure respect and effectiveness in the industry.

    Assist with harvesting tasks, preparation of seed for trialing and analysis, glasshouse operations, accurate record keeping and other day to day activities to assist the breeding teams in their work.

    Responsibilities and duties:
  • Help with harvest of selected material from the field. This includes hand harvest - plant pulling and combine harvest - carrying seed bags.

  • Help with seed preparation including threshing, sub-sampling, weighing out and racking of trial samples.

  • Pot up seedlings or plants in the glasshouses for breeding activities.

  • Keep accurate records as instructed by the manager in charge.

  • Once trained, be able to work independently, with instruction, to ensure the task/function is completed consistently to a high standard.

  • At all times, maintain Elsoms' strong Health & Safety culture and practices., Assist with scoring and selection of breeding lines.
