Full Job Description

We are looking for someone to join our small but friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated Governance Team who manage the legal process for the holding of Council and other meetings including assembling agendas, writing minutes and managing the technology. In addition, the Team provide support, guidance and advice to the Council, Cabinet and Committees and other decision-making bodies as well as the Civic and Scrutiny functions and guidance on the technology involved in holding a meeting. In time you will become directly responsible for the administration of a number of Committees and related bodies and you will also be asked to undertake support for other members of the Team and carry out research and project work.

The service requires an enthusiastic and motivated team player to work at the heart of the Authority alongside, senior officers, Parish and Town Councils and members of the public and stakeholders.
The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for the Governance Team so will need to be approachable and an excellent communicator. You will be able to demonstrate good written, oral, interpersonal and IT skills, have the ability to work effectively on you own initiative, under pressure and to tight deadlines with minimal supervision. You will be able to show good organisation and presentation skills. Most importantly you will be able to show that you can work effectively as part of the Team.
You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of, and a keen interest in, local authority decision-making together with an ability to approach politically sensitive issues with diplomacy and tact. The ability to use modern IT systems, work to deadlines and produce concise and accurate summaries of sometimes complex issues is a must.
This is a career progression role. The starting salary of the successful candidate will be determined based on their experience. To achieve the higher grade, the duties detailed in the job description will be carried out under minimal supervision.
