Full Job Description

We're looking for a passionate and enthusiastic communicator to join our friendly team.

The successful candidate will take on a rewarding role, where they can truly make a difference to the wellbeing of staff and the organisation's culture.

You will be responsible for communicating a raft of health and wellbeing information to our thousands-strong workforce, as well as working closely with our eight staff network groups to support all our employees to be their true selves at work.

As part of the Communications and Engagement Team, you will work alongside a group of people dedicated to providing staff, members, residents, visitors and those who work in Northumberland with meaningful information that supports our ambitious corporate priorities and celebrates our most important asset: those who make them a reality.,

  • - Develop engaging communications and campaign plans

  • - Film and edit short films - making people feel comfortable being their authentic selves on camera

  • - Write and edit content for weekly staff newsletters and the intranet

  • - Manage large areas of the intranet i.e. our Health & Wellbeing and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion sections

  • - Understand the diverse nature of the council's workforce and target inclusive communications accordingly

  • - Work with diverse groups, such as our Staff Networks, to tell their stories

  • - Be willing to learn about different groups, acknowledging their lived experience and how they like to receive information

  • - See, understand, accept and promote the value in our Staff Network Groups, elevating their voices to the forefront of internal communications

  • - Share key health and wellbeing messages through a variety of channels

  • - Demonstrate and acknowledge cultural competence

  • - Be well-organised, flexible, confident and handle challenge well

    - Think strategically, understanding the council's priorities, vision and values and how they impact on the organisation's cultural approach

  • - NVQ Level 3 or equivalent

  • - Good general education to †A' Level standard
  • - Knowledge of professional Public Relations, communications, design and print methods and tools.

  • - Valid UK driving licence preferred but not essential
