To meet this challenge an opportunity has arisen for a Climate Change Officer, to assist the council achieve its strategic ambitions through the development and implementation of a new climate change strategy and action plan that will ensure the climate change agenda is embedded across all services and operations.

Key Responsibilities

This is an interesting and varied role, and the main responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive climate change strategies and action plans tailored to our local community's needs and goals.

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, community organisations, and businesses, to drive collective efforts towards carbon reduction and sustainability.

  • Conduct research and analysis to assess the impacts of climate change on our region and identify opportunities for adaptation and resilience.

  • Lead public engagement initiatives to raise awareness about climate change issues and encourage community participation in sustainability efforts.

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of climate change initiatives, tracking key metrics and reporting progress to stakeholders and senior management.

    Proven experience in climate change mitigation, adaptation, and sustainability planning, preferably within a local government or public sector setting.

  • Degree in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to plan, organise, and prioritise tasks effectively.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices related to climate change and sustainability.

  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools, with the ability to interpret and present complex information clearly and concisely.

  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of climate change and sustainability.
