Full Job Description

To provide hands-on electro technical services to our vessels throughout the UK, which will involve travelling to various ports. This role is a support function to our vessels and therefore alternative hours may be needed due to shipping requirements. Technical Specialist (ETO) will also offer expertise in the form of remote support, monitor all onboard electric and electronic equipment, thereby maximising the operational safety and efficiency of the vessels.
Ultimately ensuring optimal operational and technical availability of all electrical equipment and other technical assets in support of the Technical teams service commitment.
The role is UK based with occasional travel around Europe.
Areas of responsibility:

  • Maintain the electrical and electronic equipment onboard the UK vessels by supporting repairs, modifications, project and docking work to the vessels equipment.

  • To give impartial advice and support to local technical teams and crew with the ability to step in and assist in person when required.

  • To give electro-technical specialist assistance to the global fleet, when required.

  • To procure replacement specialised electrical equipment in a timely manner when breakdowns have occurred within the fleet.

  • Identification and selection of electrical equipment for vessel repairs, modifications and projects in conjunction with Technical Superintendents.

  • Assist the Technical team with electrical support to varying levels ensuring that the vessels are fully operational in accordance with local, national, flag and classification society requirements.

  • Supplying key specialist knowledge for vessels primarily in the UK region.

    Communication - internal and external. Present and clarify specifics, practices, policies, etc to internal and external parties.

  • Innovation and problem solving. Identify problems and update or modify working methods in own role without the benefit of defined procedures. Specification of replacement systems and equipment to class requirements.

  • Knowledge and Leadership. Apply deep knowledge of one specialist job area or broad knowledge of several related job areas. Be fully conversant and up to date in all technical aspects concerning the fleets current machinery. Proactively develop skills and knowledge through technological advances.

  • Planning & Flexibility. Effective planning to facilitate on-hand support across the regions, co-ordinating with suppliers, crew and shoreside team, with aim to reduce tugs out of service.

  • Business Expertise: A thorough and demonstrable understanding of how the engineering and technical support impacts on the service commitment and a good understanding of customers and their requirements., Holds an Electro-Technical CoC (validity is N/A)

  • At least 5 years experience in the marine industry and vessel specific electrical/electronic systems such as power management systems (PMS), alarm systems, and switchboard systems

  • Full UK Driving License


  • Required Training/Skills Required:
  • Functional Knowledge: An in depth understanding of the electrical engineering requirements of the vessels in the UK fleet and a wide expertise in the application of electrical engineering solutions in a service environment. A working understanding of regional electrical engineering.

  • Knowledge of Marine switchboard system and power supply on board: Requirement for demonstrable knowledge and experience of understanding these systems, ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot and resolve.

  • Leadership: Able to provide control in all technical aspects of operation, leading teams of contractors to provide cost effective and timely solutions to electrical engineering problems. The provision of support to the continued upgrade of electrical engineering skills for the crew.

  • Problem Solving: The ability to provide constructive solutions to immediate, short and long term electrical engineering problems by application of diagnostic ability and the provision of longer term knowledge and research into technical issues.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Able to provide guidance to all crew with the ability to adapt to varying levels of knowledge the ETO will be able to provide a "hands on" specialist engineering and technical resource to the wider Technical team, vessel crew and sub contracted engineers.
